READ IT HERE. Socially conscious stunner, Summer Rayne Oakes, lets us peak into her closet yet again for the second month of her just-released feature ‘Behind the Label’. Lucire, the popular print and web-based global fashion magazine introduced the upbeat editorial last month for their ‘Sexy’ issue. Now for the themed month of ‘In the Pink’, Summer Rayne throws on some coy charm and slides into some hot pink designs by Deborah Lindquist.
‘Deborah does stand-out pieces,’ remarks Summer Rayne. ‘The bodices, the bustiers, the beading—these designs are all about being a girl and loving it. And she uses all recycled fabrics, which you would never guess because her clothes pop—they look so fresh.’
The ‘In the Pink’ editorial was shot by photographer Itaysha Jordan. ‘I asked Itaysha to shoot the editorial not only based on her previous work, but also for her personal philosophy. She is inspired by culture and colour, but most often is inspired by time. In her own words, “Why things are as they are now and how things use to be.” When I found that out about her and then talked to her over the phone, I knew she had to shoot this editorial,’ comments Oakes.
‘Deborah’s use of vintage fabric—fabric from the past and reincarnated into beautiful, full colour creations mirror Itaysha’s photographic pursuit of capturing the passage of time,’ Oakes continues. ‘My goal [for this shoot] was to keep it fresh and modern, with a nostalgic twist,’ reinforces photographer Jordan. The eco-friendly shoot was rounded off with a hair-makeup Aveda duo: Jen Covington-Bowers (hair) and Leola Olivares (make-up). ‘Pink,’ states Covington-Bowers, ‘conjures up images of softness. We wanted the hair [and overall look] to be unconstructed and flirty.’
